In our studio, we are always thinking about how to ensure that design is valued and brings value.
Which is perfect timing, considering the theme of upcoming Melbourne Design Week is ‘Design Values’. And more specifically, what does design value and how do we value design.
Design, in all its varied dimensions, is powered by creativity and enriches our economy, culture and society. It allows us to express, question, propose and test ideas about life and the world. As the scope for design expands and accelerates every day, design thinking intersects with disciplines including economics, health, science, ecology and technology. It shapes the world in which we live.
Our clients come from a wide range of sectors, and the use of design is infused throughout each and every one of them, each in their own special way. We use design to help them communicate, present, influence, encourage, question, achieve and grow, to name but a few outcomes. Without design, we imagine a world that is bland, lifeless and stagnant. One where businesses never stand out and get lost amongst the masses. Design enables your unique voice to be heard visually. Without design, you have no voice.
Melbourne Design Week is a new annual design program linking creativity with business and community. An initiative of the NGV in collaboration with the Victorian Government, it aims to present, explore and celebrate design, and promote Melbourne as one of the design capitals of the world.
Running from 16-26 March 2017, Melbourne Design Week will feature talks by leading design experts, design- focused exhibitions, tours, panel discussions and industry events held at NGV International and partner venues throughout the city.
During the week, fifteen businesses across Victoria will open their doors to the public to reveal how they have used design to transform how they work and add value to their business.

The Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley shares “Melbourne Design Week will explore the value design can and does bring to Victoria – to our lives, communities, businesses and industries. It’s a growing part of our $23 billion creative and cultural economy.”
We are proud to be a part of the design industry and continue to share how to value design with our clients, for the benefit of their business, their clients and our community as a whole.
Melbourne Design Week has us reflecting on how design has influenced our own lives and business, and how design has shaped and continues to bring value to our client’s businesses.
Have you ever thought about how to value design in your business? Or how design is influencing the value of your brand?
