Helping Hands Mission Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation that runs seven opportunity shops across Melbourne and rural Victoria, and provides emergency support to Victorian families and individuals who are suffering as a result of extreme circumstance.
To commemorate their 10-year anniversary, a ‘Community Recipe book’ was developed, with all profits going towards the purchase of a new van to meet the demand for emergency and material aid deliveries. The Helping Hands team diligently collected and typed up recipes from the organisation’s volunteers, customers and supporters. The contents of the book contained over 120 recipes covering breakfast, entrees, mains and desserts.
Originally, our client had the book formatted using Microsoft PowerPoint which created some difficulty and limitations in incorporating branding and design elements and arranging print set-up. Due to this, ideapro were asked to transpose the entire recipe book using appropriate design programs. The project morphed into a complete layout redesign from what was originally supplied by the client.
Our creative director Anthony Lo Grasso, selected imagery and utilised the Adobe suite of design programs to layout each page, designing a new cover and internal highlight pages. We wanted to ensure the recipes were easy to read for older clientele with poorer eyesight, so a larger font size was selected, and we displayed recognisable Helping Hands Mission Inc. branding elements through the use of typography and brand colours. Overall, the intention was to portray a home cooking feel to the book, so that it connected with readers at a grass roots level. Following the design and layout of the recipe book, ideapro then printed and wiro bound the 138 pages in A5 size, with clear acetate covers to protect the contents.
We are so pleased to share that the book has nearly raised $5000 which contributed towards Helping Hand Mission’s goal to purchase a new van.

In our client words…
“They recipe books moved really well, very popular with the customers and volunteers, and whilst we still have a few copies at each store, the majority have been sold.
We were in desperate need of an additional vehicle because of the demand for our emergency and material aid deliveries. Six days a week, we deliver food, clothing, furniture, white goods, bedding and other household essentials to families in need across Victoria. Now that we have four vehicles, we are far better equipped to keep up with the requests for help and deliver essential items to more families every week.
Thanks for all your amazing work, everyone was blown away with how professional it looked. I know I’ve said it a million times now, but I know this was a massive job for you guys to pull off and I am so grateful for your work.
